About WILD of Finland

What does WILD of Finland stand for?
WILD of Finland stands for tough, no-nonsense weather gear with a tactical edge, built in the wilderness of Finnish Lapland for people who actually go out in it. Four things sum us up: rugged, tactical-inspired protection; a deep love of wilderness and nature; genuine Lapland, Arctic and Finnish roots; and quality that's been proven since 1966. As we like to say: The original tough Weather Gear from Lapland.
What is the philosophy behind WILD of Finland products?
Function first, always. We're not a fashion brand — we put practicality before appearance and durability before lightness, even if that occasionally means a few extra grams. Every product exists to get you outside and let you feel the freedom, quiet and “back to basics” clarity that only real wilderness gives you.
Who are WILD of Finland products designed for?
First and foremost for people who live for the outdoors: wilderness explorers, hunters, bushcrafters and tactical users. We also fit well with active dog owners, overlanders, anglers, and anyone with a soft spot for Lapland, Scandinavia and Finland.
What makes WILD of Finland different from other outdoor brands?
We don’t just design gear about Lapland — we design it in Lapland, above the Arctic Circle, where winter temperatures regularly drop below –35°C. What we build, we wear ourselves, every single day. That’s 50+ years of first-hand Arctic experience in every seam, not a lab report written somewhere warm.
Where are WILD of Finland products designed?
In Muonio, Finnish Lapland — more than 250 km north of the Arctic Circle. It’s also where we develop and field-test everything we make, in exactly the conditions it’s built to survive.
Where are WILD of Finland products manufactured?
Design, development and testing all happen at home in Finnish Lapland. Production is carried out by carefully selected manufacturing partners who work to our technical specifications and quality standards in Finland, EU and Asia. We try to get as much EU Footprint in our products as possible what means that we also try to source fabrics and materials from Europe!

Products & Technology

What does "technical outdoor clothing" mean?
It means clothing engineered for a job, not just a look — fabrics, construction and features chosen specifically to protect you against wind, rain, cold and rough handling while you’re actually out working or adventuring, not just walking between the car and the café.
What materials do you use?
It depends on the product and what it’s built to do. Our hardshells and hardshell pants use tough, waterproof-breathable membrane fabrics; our softshells pair a wind- and water-resistant membrane with a soft fleece lining; our insulated pieces use high-loft fleece or advanced fill like TACDOWN; and a few products use natural materials like genuine reindeer hide or 100% wool. You’ll find the exact material breakdown on every product page.
What is a 3-layer construction?
It’s the toughest, most reliable way to build a hardshell: a durable face fabric on the outside, a waterproof-breathable membrane bonded in the middle, and a protective inner layer on the inside — fused together into one fabric instead of stitched together as separate layers. Nothing to delaminate, nothing to let go when it matters.
What is a waterproof and breathable membrane?
A super-thin layer built into the fabric with pores small enough to stop rain getting in, but large enough to let your body’s sweat vapour escape. On our hardshells that’s typically rated at 20,000mm waterproofness — rain genuinely bounces off — while still letting you breathe when you’re working hard.
What is DWR (Durable Water Repellent)?
It’s the finish on the outer fabric that makes water bead up and roll off instead of soaking in — what keeps a jacket’s face fabric “beading” even though the actual waterproofing happens in the membrane underneath. Some of our gear uses a maintenance-free DWR (like EMPEL on the RAIVO) that barely ever needs re-treating; others benefit from an occasional wash-in reproofing treatment — see “How can I restore the water repellency?” below.
How are WILD of Finland products tested?
In the field, not in a lab report. Lapland is our test lab — everything we build gets put through exactly the cold, wind, sleet and rough handling it’s meant to protect you from, down to –40°C. What we sell, we wear ourselves, every day.
Where can I find the technical specifications of a product?
On the product page itself — scroll to the spec/feature section for material, waterproof and breathability ratings, temperature range and other technical details specific to that item.

Choosing the Right Gear

Which WILD of Finland product is right for me?
Start with what you’ll actually be doing and how cold it’ll be: each product page shows its usable temperature range and hero specs, so you can match the gear to your trip rather than the other way round. Still not sure? Get in touch and we’ll point you in the right direction (see “Help & Contact” below).
How should I layer my clothing?
Three layers, three jobs: a moisture-wicking base layer against your skin, an insulating midlayer (like a fleece) to trap warmth, and a wind- and waterproof outer shell to keep the elements out. Add or remove the midlayer as conditions and effort level change.
What is the difference between a shell, softshell and insulated jacket?
A shell (hardshell) is your outer armour — a waterproof-breathable membrane built for serious rain and wind protection, worn over your insulation. A softshell is more flexible and breathable, with wind and water resistance built in and often a soft fleece lining, best for drier, active days. An insulated jacket (fleece or down) is about warmth — worn on its own in milder conditions or as a midlayer under a shell when it’s properly cold.
How do I choose the right size?
Our sizing is height-driven: your height sets your base size letter, and on top of that we offer chest fit-lines (Normal, D and XLD) for broader or more athletic builds. You don't need a separate chart. On each product's page, open the size assistant, enter your height and measurements, and it recommends your exact size for that garment.
Where can I find the size guide?
Each product has its own size assistant on its product page. Enter your height and measurements there and it recommends your size for that garment. There isn't a separate size chart, because the recommendation is tailored to each product.
Are your products designed to be worn with multiple layers?
Yes — our shells and softshells are cut to work as part of a layering system, with room for a fleece or insulated midlayer underneath without feeling restrictive.
What should I consider when choosing a jacket for cold weather?
Look at the temperature range listed on the product, how active you’ll be (harder effort needs more breathability, less insulation), and whether you need a standalone insulated piece or a shell to layer over something warmer. When in doubt, layering beats one thick jacket — it’s easier to adjust to changing conditions.
04

Care & Maintenance

How should I wash my WILD of Finland products?
Machine wash at a maximum of 40°C using a liquid detergent only — powder detergent can clog the membrane. Open all zippers first, skip the spin cycle, and never wring the garment. Please check individual care instructions on each product!
Can I use fabric softener?
Not on products with a waterproof or waterproof-breathable membrane (jackets, pants, overalls) — softener coats the membrane and kills its breathability. On water-resistant/windproof pieces without a membrane, and on removable linings, fabric softener is fine.
Can I tumble dry my WILD of Finland products?
No — never tumble dry. Air dry at room temperature instead, and don’t iron.
How do I maintain the water repellency of my product?
Keep it clean. Dirt, oils and grime sitting on the outer fabric stop water from beading properly, so wash it — following the 40°C, liquid-detergent, no-softener rules above — as soon as it starts looking dull, rather than waiting until it visibly wets out.
How can I restore the water repellency?
A proper wash (as above) is often enough to bring the beading back, since it’s usually surface dirt killing the effect. If it’s still soaking in after washing, a compatible wash-in DWR reproofing treatment will refresh it — some of our products (like the RAIVO’s EMPEL DWR) are built to barely ever need this in the first place.
How should I store my outdoor clothing?
Clean and completely dry, hung or loosely folded in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight — never packed away damp or tightly compressed for long periods, which can damage the membrane and insulation over time.
How do I remove dirt or stains?
Spot-clean with a damp cloth and, if needed, a small amount of liquid detergent, or use a dedicated technical textile cleaner. Avoid bleach and harsh solvents — they can damage the membrane and coatings.
What should I do if my product gets damaged?
Get in touch with us at support@wild.fi with photos and a description of the damage. If it turns out to be a material or manufacturing defect, it’s covered under our warranty — see “What does the WILD of Finland warranty cover?” below.
How can I extend the lifespan of my WILD of Finland product?
Wash it properly and only when it needs it, always air dry, keep the DWR topped up, store it clean and dry, and open zippers before washing. Gear that’s looked after this way will simply outlast gear that isn’t.
